Small-Town Killers
On October 25, 1994, twenty-one-year-old Andrew Ladbrook and twenty-year-old Shianne Whitten were convicted of first-degree murder in Grantburg, North Dakota. People across the country watched their trial, questioning how a harmless looking couple killed three people.
The eldest of five siblings, Ladbrook’s father habitually beat him with belts and extension cords. His mother fed her addictions more than her own kids. He hated home and didn’t care for school. The only thing he did care for was the pretty girl in homeroom who teased him. She had a similar childhood and knew how it felt coming home to passed out parents who either neglected or abused you. Love and care were something you begged for. Even then, you’d be deprived.
